Wedding etiquette for grandmother of the bride?

by Trouble

Hello, can you tell me if their are ways for the grandmother of the bride to participate in planning a wedding? I have been asked by an 80+ year old friend what she might be expected to do for her upcoming granddaughters wedding, she wants to be a part of it but not sure how to come into it? Thanks.

Dear Trouble

It is not traditional for the grandmother to be included in the actual planning for the wedding unless she is invited to do so. My advice is to ask her granddaughter how she can participate, offer her help and let the bride decide what part she will play. It would be lovely for her to be a part of the excitement involved in the anticipation and planning, of course. But it is always up to the bride.

Please wish her well for us.
